Great Weekend in Ithaca (Day Two)
Our second day around Ithaca included a lot of outdoor pursuits. I decided to sample some New York state singletrack riding, but the search for this mountain bike trail ended up being as much of the adventure as the riding itself. Not many locals knew the way to Shindagin Hollow, but after navigating some serious backroad bumps and eventually chasing pickup trucks with bikes in the back, I found the trail.
It was awesome!
Shortly after my two-hour ride, Candice and I hiked up the steep gorge next to Buttermilk Falls. The hike was rewarding as we were treated to one beautiful waterfall after another.
We capped off the night with a trip to College Town (Ithaca was again ranked as the best college town in the U.S. for towns with a population less than 250,000 by the Institute of Economic Research). The area is loaded with shopping and restaurants and we had our destination chosen the previous day — Sangam Indian Cuisine.
We ordered like four people because there were so many dishes we wanted to sample, including our first crack at Chicken Vindaloo. If you’re in an Indian restaurant and they say that a dish is hot, you must take their word for it — Vindaloo is uber-spicy! We also had an amazing Chicken Mango dish, unlike any other dish we’ve experienced. We highly recommend this place (we enjoyed sitting at the window, pictured below right).
